Acura Master Cylinder
Among the brake components, the Acura master cylinder is the one that converts your foot's mechanical pressure into a hydraulic pressure. This is mounted under the hood and is directly connected to the brake pedal. It is also coupled to the slave cylinders, which are located at each wheel, via steel brake lines and flexible brake hoses. A typical master cylinder is basically two completely separate master cylinders fused in a single housing and each handling two wheels. This is necessary so that if one side fails, the driver will still be able to stop the vehicle. There is usually an indicator light on the dash that lights on whenever either side fails, alerting you about the problem.
The Acura master cylinder is composed of two fluid reservoirs, two pistons, and two or more circuits (brake lines). When the brake pedal is engaged, the primary piston forces in to create a pressure in the reservoirs. The created pressure along with the secondary piston, compresses the fluid evenly on each circuit and into the brake calipers. Usually, engine vacuum is used to assist in providing pressure to the system. In case the brake line is damaged, the master cylinder will route the hydraulic pressure to the remaining lines and thus, preventing disastrous failure of the brakes.
