Acura Pressure Plate

An important part of your Acura's transmission is the clutch. This is the device that allows you to engage and disengage the engine from the transmission, enabling the driver start, stop, idle at neutral, and shift gears smoothly and unrestrictedly. It allows engine power to be applied slowly when the vehicle is starting out and breaks off the power to prevent gear crunching when shifting gears. Engaging the clutch allows engine power to be transmitted from the engine to the transmission and drive wheels. Disengaging it would stop the power transfer, allowing the engine to continue spinning without applying force to the drivewheels. The proper operations of the clutch are derived from its working components and this includes the Acura pressure plate.

The Acura pressure plate is specifically a spring-loaded clamp that is attached to the flywheel. It contains a sheet metal cover, heavy release springs, a metal pressure ring that serves as a sufficient friction surface for the clutch disc, a thrust ring or fingers for the release bearings, and the release levers. The release levers reduce the holding force of the springs whenever the clutch is disengaged. The springs geared in the pressure plate are mostly of diaphragm types, however, some may use multiple coil springs. Some high-performance pressure plates are semi-centrifugal, which means, small weights are installed on the tips of the diaphragm springs to increase the clamping force as engine revolutions increase.
