24 Hours of LeMons Race

Proving its efficiency as a vehicle is something that the Acura Integra has no trouble doing. In the recently concluded 24 Hours of LeMons race, Team Fantasy Junction/InAccuracy’s Acura Integra finished with the fastest lap time for the race. The time was an impressive 1:13.649 seconds.

The Acura Integra’s lap time was the fastest for this year’s LeMons race. The LeMons Race is an annual car racing event that lasts for 24 hours. It features vehicles that were “purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 dollars or less”. Hence the name LeMons. The cars begin the qualifying races by undergoing various challenges such as the “Personal-Injury-Lawyer Anti-Slalom, the Marxist-Valet Parking Challenge, and the Wide Open Throttle Rodthrowapalooza”. After twelve hours two awards are given out to selected vehicles – the People’s Choice and People’s Curse awards. The People’s Choice awardee is given a cash prize while the People’s Curse vehicle is called in and summarily destroyed. When the 24 – hour time period has transpired, an awarding ceremony gives “trophies, plaques and four-figure purses in canvas bags full of nickels” to the deserving winners of the 24 hour LeMons race.

This year’s LeMons trophy was brought home by Team Red Meat and Poontang Mazda. Even if the Acura did not win first place, it did receive the honor of having the fastest lap time for this race.

Acura was created by Honda as a luxury brand for its upscale market. The Integra was first created as a hatchback which showcased the vehicle’s “engineering excellence and build quality”. The vehicle came in two – door and four – door hatchback models, each of which ran on a 170-horsepower 1.8-liter 4-cylinder VTEC – equipped engine. Being crafted by Honda, one of the premiere Japanese automakers, is a badge of quality that Acura wears with pride. With an Acura Integra, one can be assured of the best road performance and the ultimate driving experience.

Acura Integra: The Car of Today’s Youth

Acura Integra

The Acura Integra is the car of choice for today’s youth. What makes the Integra so appealing to the youth of today? Here’s a walk through of the many benefits that owning an Integra can have for today’s younger generation.

The Acura Integra is a sporty four wheel drive vehicle which exudes youthfulness and style. The body shape and type makes it attractive for young car owners. The car is reasonably priced and is affordable for the young people who are yet starting out on their own. But the Integra’s greatest come on for its young buyers would be the fact that Acura’s parent company, Honda, has distinguished itself in the field of racing, both in Formula One and the European Touring Car Races. Everything that Honda has learned in these championship races have been applied to its production vehicles. The Acura Integra is one such vehicle to benefit from Honda’s extensive racing experience. The Integra boasts of a 2.0L 160 hp (119 kW) I4 or a 2.0L 200 hp (150 kW) I4 engine. Car buyers can choose from a 5-speed automatic, 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual transmission. The car has a wheel base of 101.2 in (2570 mm), a curb weight of 2790 lbs. and a fuel capacity of 13.2 US gal. It has dimensions of 172.2 inches (4374 mm) in length, 67.9 inches (1725 mm) in width and 54.9 inches (1394 mm) in height.

What’s even better about the Integra is that it is equipped with a VTEC variable valve timing which “increases power at higher revs without compromising low-speed torque”. The Integra which has a “standard, race-bred four-wheel double-wishbone suspension” has superior handling and the ability to withstand various types of terrain and driving conditions.

These attributes, including the Integra’s fuel efficiency has made it a formidable vehicle for most of today’s youth. In fact, many car aftermarket parts suppliers have been latching on to the trend by selling more and more aftermarket part add – ons to young Acura Integra car owners.

‘Tis the season to be jolly, not the season to be tragic

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

Acura automobiles are a pleasure to ride; and the Acura Integra is a prime example of this. Its easy-breezy feel is cozy, especially this Christmas season; but time and time again we are shown that we must handle such pleasures responsibly and not let ourselves get carried away by them. Just yesterday, a news article from Star Exponent.com told a story about two young illegal immigrants in America, for whom Christmas presents came early last Sunday, December 23 - in the form of second chances. It echoed a rule that people do not take seriously until it’s too late: Never drink and drive.

In the article, Trooper K.B. Highland claimed that Aaron Ortega-Marquez and Fernando Marquez-Ortega were drunk driving in their 1990 Acura Integra at speeds between 80 to 85 mph northbound along U.S. 29 until they crashed onto a tree.

Highland said that the 26-year-old Ortega-Marquez overcorrected his car after veering off to the left side of the road, thereby causing the vehicle to run off to the right and hit a tree. Highland stated that initial breath samples taken from the 22-year-old passenger, Marquez-Ortega, revealed his blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit.

Ironically enough, the immigrants’ apparent ignorance of safety rules seems to be the reason why they are still alive: both were ejected out of their seats as the driver did not wear his seatbelt, whereas the passenger only wore a shoulder harness.

Credit it to sheer luck, Christmas miracles, or perhaps even to the Integra itself, but both young men are still alive, albeit greatly injured. The driver was brought to Inova Fairfax Hospital in critical condition, whereas the passenger was brought to University of Virginia Medical Center in serious condition. Both hospitals have yet to release an update on the condition of their patients.

All of this goes to show that even if a car is loaded with safety features, we must never forget that the biggest safety feature there is is our brains. So think about it: If you have to drive, do not drink. If you have to drink, go with your friendly designated driver, or take a cab. After all, ’tis the season to be jolly, not the season to be tragic.

A Brief Glance at Acura Integra’s Past (1986-2001)

Monday, October 8th, 2007

For fifteen years, Acura’s very first model had a short yet sweet existence.

The Acura Integra, a small and sporty vehicle carrying Acura’s topnotch engineering quality, was among the first models launched by Acura. The Integra debuted on the same year when Acura was born. The Integra, along with the Acura Legend, was introduced as part of the brand new Acura division. At that time, Acura was built up as a new division of Honda that appeals to the upscale market.

The Acura Integra, which was based on the Honda Civic, integrated sporty features with high-performance and light weight engines. It was the smallest and least expensive among Acura cars. After its first generation of cars was released on March 27, 1986, no wonder the Integra immediately became successful in terms of units sold.

The very first Integra cars were three-door and five-door hatchbacks that had 1.6-liter DOHC engine with 16 valves and four cylinders, generating 113 horsepower and 99 pounds of torque. It also included a five-speed manual/four-speed automatic transmission.

The 1991 Acura Integra paved the way for the second generation of the Integra. This version was available as a three-door hatchback and a four-door sedan. The 1991 Acura Integra was powered by a 1.8-liter in-line four-cylinder engine that produced 130 horsepower. The next year, a high-performance GS-R trim was introduced. The new technology came with a 1.7 I4 with VTEC technology, a 8000 rpm redline, and generated 160 horsepower.

The Integra sports sedan, the third and last generation of the Acura Integra was produced from 1994 to 2001. These cars were considered the best front-wheel drive vehicles of their kind.

Another milestone for the Acura Integra happened in 1997, when the limited edition Acura Integra Type R was launched. The Type R started a legacy in race car technology. It had a 1.8-liter engine rated at a whopping 195 horsepower, which was more than any average engine produced in the United States at that time. With only 500 Acura Integra Type R produced, the car had sports-style seats and new front and rear spoilers.

In 2001, Acura dropped the Integra name in the United States and replaced it with the new RSX. The Acura RSX still had the similar design and packaging as that of its predecessor Integra. The new model, however, offered new styling, more luxury, and more power.

Acura: Japanese automotive ingenuity

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

For over two decades, the very first Japanese luxury line of Acura has been establishing the quality design and engineering, which are evident in its models. A company cannot last this long if not for the well-crafted vehicles it can offer. Behind the remarkable vehicles of Acura are well-researched concepts especially for the Acura vehicle’s parts.

As the first Japan-made luxury vehicle sold in the United States, Acura has to sustain its consistency especially in the performance of every model it manufactures. The steadiness of every Acura vehicle truly exudes what Japanese ingenuity is all about. A year after its debut in the industry, the Japanese performance brand has already won several awards including Import Car of the Year given by Motor Trend. On that same year, the model Acura Integra pocketed the Car and Driver’s Ten Best List title.

The luxury line goes beyond the exterior as the innermost parts are all beefed up starting from the engine. All Acura models have been geared with the VTEC engine. This technology unique to this brand is responsible in the high-performing Acura engines. Aside from the powerful engine, the VTEC technology enhances fuel efficiency of the engine and still manages to produce remarkable energy outputs at higher velocities.

Acura vehicles are also geared with other supplemental finds such as the Drive-by-Wire Throttle System which are usually race cars staples. There is also the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. Another important innovation of Acura is the safety features like the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE). The ACE technology is directly installed in the frame of the vehicle and improves car protection.
